Instagram Turns Off ‘Related Hashtags’

In August 2020, Instagram turned off an algorithmic feature that pushed users toward “related hashtags.” The decision followed a TTP report revealing that Instagram disabled the related hashtags feature for Donald Trump content, which blocked potentially negative messages about Trump, but allowed Joe Biden’s related hashtags to be hijacked by disinformation and smears.
